Excursion: Y5 Ballarat Camp
Date: 19-21 October 2009
Dear Parents
Year 5 Camp to Ballarat: Monday 19 -
Wednesday 21 October 2009
In week three of Term 4 your child
will be going on camp to Ballarat. We will be leaving Monday 19
October at 8:30 am and travelling to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat.
This year we are staying at The Bell Tower Inn Motel. This is a
very suitable, safe environment for children of
this age to stay. We will be returning to School on Wednesday 21
October at 3.15pm.
On our first day the children will be
involved in a 'Chinese on the Goldfields' education experience
where they will be given a special lesson on the Chinese
culture, visit the Chinese Village and take a guided mine tour.
Gold panning, bowling and a visit to the diggings will provide
an exciting start to the Study Tour. Warm clothes will be
required for the evening as the children will experience the
Blood on the Southern Cross Light & Sound Show.
Day Two will involve the children
researching for their gold projects in study groups. In the
afternoon the children will be involved in an educational
program called Gold Fever. Guided
gold talks, a guided mine tour and a demonstration of gold
panning, blacksmith and lolly making should engage all learners.
On Day Three the children will visit
the Gold Museum and visit Sovereign Hill, once more experiencing
Main Street and taking time to finalise their projects before
leaving to return to school by 3:15pm.
We are focussing on the Gold Rush as
an educational experience. Due to the shorter nature
of the camp we are going to use the field trip to gather
information for a research project that the children will be
expected to complete at school on Thursday 22 and Friday
23 October. Children will be immersed in
'Gold' activities and will wear early colonial clothes for
Thursday and Friday of this week.
Mrs Anstey, Mr Shorten, Mr Pittard,
Mrs Lawrence, Mrs Monk, Miss Katherine Kenner and Miss Cassidy
Hewitt will supervise the children on this trip. If your
child has any special medical or dietary requirements please see
your class teacher as soon as possible so we can make
appropriate arrangements.
We have enclosed a clothing list to
assist your child when packing. Please ensure your child has
packed a beanie, coat and warm clothing due to the cold nature
of Ballarat.
Children may bring $20 for spending
money. This will need to be handed into class teachers
by Monday 12 October. We also ask you to support us in NOT
allowing your child to bring a mobile phone on this trip.
We are anticipating a great trip. If
you have any concerns please ring Mrs Anstey on
9788 7805.
Yours sincerely
Maureen Anstey, Paul Shorten and Sally
Pittard
