Divisions

Junior School Problem      Years 3 – 6
Middle School Problem     Years 7 – 9
Senior School Problem     Years 10 – 12
 

Student Instructions

  • Solutions should be set out neatly, either hand written or typed
  • Students should explain their thinking when solving the problem
  • All steps should be shown in students mathematical working
  • Students may seek clarification of the problem but all work must be their own
     

Submitting Solutions

Students may submit their solutions in either of the following ways

  • E-mail to kmcmenamin@tps.vic.edu.au with problem of the month included in the subject line, or
  • Post solutions in the marked box: years 3 – 7 at Junior School office and years 8 – 12 in S17, or
  • Give to Mathematics teacher.
     

Due Dates

Solutions will be due by 4 pm on the date issued on the problem page.
Correct solutions will be posted on Learning Point for 2 weeks after the closing date.
 

Scoring

Student solutions will be scored using the criterion below:

  • 4 points for a fully correct solution with all working out shown.
  • 3 points for a complete solution with some minor errors.
  • 2 points for a significant start to the problem.
  • 1 point for some progress towards a solution.

Prizes

Monthly Prize – each correct entry will go in the draw to win a book prize in each of the three divisions.

Yearly Prize – all entries received throughout the year will go into the draw to win an MP3 player.

Prize winners will be posted on Learning Point within 2 weeks of closing date.
